2023 Order of Merit is now live – How are points awarded?
The Order of Merit at our golf club recognizes exceptional performance throughout the season. Points are awarded based on the following system:
1st place: 10 points 2nd place: 8 points 3rd place: 6 points 4th place: 4 points 5th place: 3 points 6th place: 2 points 7th place: 1 point
Each position carries its own significance in the Order of Merit. The player securing the 1st place receives the highest points, with a substantial advantage in the standings. The 2nd place is awarded a commendable number of points, demonstrating a strong performance. As we move down the ranks, the points gradually decrease, recognizing the achievements of the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th place finishers. It’s important to note that the allocation of these seven places is dependent on a minimum of ten participants in a competition. In cases where there are less than ten participants, the number of places awarded will decrease accordingly. For instance, with nine participants, only six places will be awarded, with first place earning 8 points, second earning 6 points, and so on. Additionally, a minimum of two participants is required for a point to be allocated, ensuring a fair competition.
For competitions that span over two days, such as Weekend and Midweek Comps, the Order of Merit is determined by the top 7 performances achieved over the two-day period.
This year, we are excited to introduce an update to the Order of Merit by dividing the Weekend category into two separate tables. This change enhances the fairness and competitiveness of the Order of Merit experience. The categories for the Order of Merit are:
Weekend (Yellow Tees)
Weekend (White Tees)
Midweek
Seniors
Regardless of the category, the same points system applies to determine the Order of Merit standings. At the end of the season, all players who have earned Order of Merit points will receive a monetary value for their achievements. This monetary value will be applied to the following year’s subscriptions, providing an additional incentive for golfers to perform at their best.
