Low Handicap Team Triumphs in an Intense Battle at the Abbey: A 2-1 victory over Ombersley

A scorching morning at the Abbey witnessed a triumphant home victory of 2-1.

The first match proved to be a formidable challenge for Jason Austin and Phil Newton as they faced off against an ex-professional player and his talented young partner. Despite their opponents impressively clearing the trees on the first hole with a powerful iron shot from the whites, Austin and Newton valiantly fought back. However, their efforts were ultimately in vain as they succumbed to a 4&3 defeat.

In his inaugural match, Jimmy Elliot took some time to find his rhythm but showcased his skills during the back nine. With two remarkable birdies, Elliot, along with the consistent Mark Goddard, managed to keep the Abbey team in the match throughout the front nine. Their commendable performance culminated in a well-deserved 3&2 victory.

Gareth Browing, also making his debut in the last group, made a strong start by securing birdies on both the 4th and 6th holes. His stellar performance, in partnership with Andy Boardman, contributed to a resounding 4&3 win in the final match.

A big thank you goes out to all the players for their participation in today’s event.
