MESSAGE FROM CRAIG TIDMARSH – Course Manager
Not ideal I know but it’s looking increasingly likely the course will be closed at least tomorrow and maybe Sunday as well due to the greens being borderline unplayable.
Minus overnight temperatures for the last week, plus not getting much above zero in the day frost has got down to around 3-4 inches.
Since the weather has gone a bit milder the top inch has thawed out but the water has nowhere to go as it cannot get through the frozen ground beneath. This leaves us with very wet surfaces which when walked on can cause root tear which brings us a whole world of pain going forward and will certainly have a detrimental effect on how the greens will look and play in early spring.
Once the frozen ground thaws the greens will dry out pretty much overnight, we are just not sure if that will be tonight, tomorrow night or the night after yet.
I understand this is disappointing for members and not good for business. If could be avoided, it would be but unfortunately you can’t force nature.
The greens will be inspected first thing in the morning and if they have dried out sufficiently and no damage will be caused then it will be open, I just thought it wise to give everyone a heads up.
Thanks
Craig
